Once you finish your last procedure and smile perfectly, you probably think you are done. But you still have to clean your dentures regularly to maintain them correctly.
CLEANING YOUR FIXED HYBRID DENTURES
Your denture cleaning process differs from traditional dentures. You still clean them, but you do not need to buy a sonic cleaner or Efferdent. With hybrid fixed dentures, you brush and floss them just as you would your natural teeth using a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste. You should brush at least twice a day or as recommended by your dentist, use short, back-and-forth strokes, and gently brush the denture’s outer, inner, and chewing surfaces. You also floss at these times. That helps keep your dentures looking great and also protects your gums from gum disease. Even with dentures, you must maintain your oral hygiene.
Many dentists recommend using a Waterpik flosser to clean the dentures well, especially the area between your natural gums and where the implant screws into your gums. A narrow space exists here that can allow food particles to become trapped. The Waterpik helps you keep this area clean, as this is important to maintain healthy gum tissue and keep your implants free of infection-causing bacteria.
Once a year, you return to your dentist’s office for a checkup. There, they will examine your dentures and polish them. Your denture can be professionally removed and cleaned during these visits.
